String Camp

WHY CHAMBER MUSIC?

Playing Chamber Music (in a small ensemble without a conductor) is very different from performing in an orchestra or as a soloist.  The interaction between the musicians is a unique and valuable experience.  As a result of this kind of music making, the student develops leadership and cooperation skills, improves rhythmic independence, intonation and technique, acquires new listening skills and gains a whole new understanding of musical expression.

WHY MUSIC THEORY AND
HISTORY CLASS?

The more students know about the fundamentals of music, the better equipped they are to understand and analyze music, which leads to quicker learning and more confident performances.  The historical side of music includes many fascinating stories and facts which facilitate a deeper understanding of style and interpretation.

WHY STRING ORCHESTRA?

Playing in a string orchestra gives students a chance to foster a sense of community among other students, as well as allows a chance for students to explore string orchestra literature they might not play in other groups.

PRIVATE LESSONS AND
MASTER CLASSES

Each student will have two private lessons per week which will focus on mastering their chamber music parts.  There will be a master class that focuses on learning chamber music rehearsal techniques.
